"I can still see you" (Image and Memory: Life at Home in WW2)

YFA are working in partnership with Project Space Leeds to explore a wartime collection of documentaries, home movies and newsreels.

The exhibition "I can still see you" (Image and Memory: Life at Home in WW2), produced by artist Diane Howse, will be inaugurated at the contemporary art gallery Project Space Leeds on 17th March 2010.

It will offer a variety of points of view on everyday life and the home front during World War II, with a particular focus on the lives of children. The artist will use stills and moving images extracted from the Yorkshire Film Archive's wartime collections (documentaries, home movies, newsreels).

Personal testimonies of people featured in the films as children will be incorporated into the curatorial process, and form the basis for intergenerational education work aligned to the exhibition.

Alongside the images, audiences will be offered a catalogue and learning pack, an academic seminar entitled Aftermath: Living Past Conflict, some creative workshops for young people, screenings, reminiscence sessions, guided visits for audience groups and a resource room where visitors will be able to spend some time after seeing the exhibition, consulting books, watching DVDs, playing games and handling replicas of wartime objects.
