The Rowntree Archive and Nestlé have confirmed that they will provide funding to enable YFA to digitise and preserve the Rowntree film collection, which is currently held at the YFA.

This diverse collection includes 35mm cinema and TV adverts, dating from the 1950s until the 1980s.  Many different Rowntree and Rowntree Mackintosh favourites are featured - for example, Fruit Gums and Kit Kat - together with sweets and chocolates long since discontinued, such as the Weekend chocolate box, Cherries in the Dark bar, and the Strawberry Wish.

Also forming part of the collection are unique 16mm films, featuring the Rowntree family in the 1930s, Rowntree's workers' annual sports day, and industrial scenes of the chocolate factory and confectionery production, both in York and overseas.

The YFA has been working closely with Alex Hutchinson, Heritage Assistant for the Rowntree Archive.  Alex has been vital in helping us secure the funding, without which, digitisation of the collection wouldn't be able to take place.
