how to see our material
There are many ways in which you can see material from the Yorkshire Film Archive. These include coming to our premises in York for research (by appointment), attending one of our screenings, finding YFA films in museum displays, or catching material when it appears on television. We have also produced a series of programmes for sale on DVD/video, under the title Yorkshire Remembered: these include many of our most popular films grouped together under six themes reflecting life and times in Yorkshire during the past century.
We also provide advice on film care and preservation. Specialist staff can advise you on the care and handling of film and moving image material. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
Viewing material at the YFA:
If you have a family and/or personal interest in a particular subject, we can offer you access to material in our viewing room here at the YFA. There is no charge for viewing, nor for initial research and preparation for your visit. The viewing room has facilities for up to five researchers at a time, or small groups of up to 12 people. All viewings are by appointment, so for further information and booking details please get in touch directly.
Film festivals and exhibitions:
We work regularly in partnership with film exhibitors and festival programmers, as well as with regional museums and galleries where permanent displays of material can be seen throughout the year.
If you are interested in obtaining film material for exhibition purposes on behalf of museums, galleries, libraries or archives in the Yorkshire region - or anywhere else - please contact us with details of what you are looking for, and to find out about terms and conditions.
Television:
We regularly supply material to regional and national broadcasters, where copyright and access allows. Programmes seen in the Yorkshire region during the past few years included 'The Way We Were' (ITV Yorkshire) and 'Nation On Film' (BBC2). This year we are working on another, new series of 'The Way We Were' and details of other television productions will appear on the web site shortly.
