From Coast to Country
- fishing, farming and the rural way of life

From Coast to Country looks at two very different aspects of life in Yorkshire. For many years, farming and fishing dominated the lives and economies of these communities but what we see now is very different from the early days fo the last century and in many cases all that remains are memories.

The coast and the activities around it formed an important part of Yorkshire's history, but it wasn't only because of the fishing industry - for many families, the annual holidays at the east coast resorts were looked forward to with eager anticipation.

Annual gatherings at country and agricultural shows brought people together across the scattered rural farming communities. For many, the meeting at the Great Yorkshire Show in July each year was a mix of relaxation, competition and a chance to inspect the latest agricultural products and equipment. The scene shown here was recorded at the first year of the Show on its permanent site in Harrogate.
