Goole Silent Movie Project
Wednesday 10th October saw the premier of the Goole Silent Movie Project at the National Media Museum in Bradford. Co-ordinated by Goole Town Council, the project involved a group of young people between the ages of 13 and 20 who researched, wrote, directed, filmed, animated, edited and acted in two short silent films.
“A.D Holmes” is a silent newsreel based on a true story from Goole’s historical past. The young people viewed a 1920s Pathé newsreel held at the Yorkshire Film Archive, which shows the building of Goole’s water tower, as background research and inspiration for the style of the film.
“The Lost Princess” is a murder mystery based in Goole. The young people researched local, national and international historical stories and wove them together into a fictional script. The final film uses animation, intertitles and visual techniques from the silent era to produce a professional and enjoyable historical film.
